Carmen is 2023 graduate from Horton High School, Wolfville, Nova Scotia. A talented musician, social justice advocate, and proponent of innovative technology, Carmen brings a multi-disciplinary approach to her life and work. Carmen’s interests lie in the intersections of health, social justice, and scientific research. These intersecting passions led Carmen to found Waves of Change, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and engaging students about sustainable development. Waves of Change has engaged over 800 Nova Scotian students through their various conferences and activist events. As the Girls in STEM National Youth Ambassador, Carmen is a strong advocate for the role of innovative technology in creating a more sustainable planet. Asides from her academic and community involvement, Carmen has pursued a high level of musicianship. She completed her Grade 10 Piano Diploma and works in various musical capacities at local churches. She is currently the Pianist and Choir Accompanist for the Orchard Valley United Church in New Minas and volunteers her time as the Pianist for the Acadia University School of Music Chorus and Horton High School’s Choir and Musical Theatre program.
Carmen will be pursuing a BSc. in Environmental Science and Mathematics with a minor in Music in the fall of 2023. She looks forward to continuing making a positive social impact through her passions in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math).
