Becca Cook is a 2025 partial IB graduate from Cobequid Educational Center (CEC) in Truro, NS. She is a strong advocate for the environment and is passionate about youth environmental education. She says “I grew up being in nature, I have immersed myself by playing in our woodlot, hiking, backpacking, canoeing and surfing in our natural world. I am an adamant believer that fostering love and appreciation for nature will create a future where people want to protect our planet”.

Becca has sought out volunteer work that allows her to connect youth to nature. She is a long-time member of Girl Guides of Canada. As a member of Girl Guides she has camped, done community cleanups, facilitated environmental events for younger members, and led events at Quest, a provincial weekend of outdoor challenges.

Becca also prioritized learning about the science of environment and climate through her school’s Envirothon team (a high school environmental science competition). She completed three years of the program, winning the provincial championship title two of those years. Recently, she was part of the team representing Nova Scotia at the International NCF Envirothon in Calgary, Alberta.

Becca is also involved in community through many school clubs and extracurriculars. Highlights have included leading CEC’s United Way youth committee from 2023-2025, coaching Special Olympics swimming, participating in student council, grad committee, shared reading, and competing in club and varsity girls’ soccer.

At Acadia Becca will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biology and hopes to grow as a community leader and environmentalist. She plans to continue fostering love of nature in youth through involvement in Girl Guides of Canada and Nova Scotia Envirothon.
