Maggie is a 2023 graduate from Horton High School and is from Kentville, Nova Scotia. As an accomplished academic and high-level athlete, Maggie has dedication and tenacity in spades. As a triathlete and swimmer, Maggie has competed across the United States and Canada in international triathlon competitions. Most recently, Maggie was selected to represent Nova Scotia in the Canada Summer Games in 2022 in triathlon. While following a rigorous training schedule, Maggie exceled in her academics, achieving Honours with Distinction each year. As a natural leader, Maggie has volunteered in her community by organizing events for various organizations including the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Camp Brigadoon, and the Wolfville Tritons Swim Club. Most recently, Maggie organized a road clean-up project to raise funds for the Wolfville Tritons Swim Club and for children with serious health challenges to attend Camp Brigadoon. Having grown up in the Wolfville area, Maggie’s passion for biology began at a young age when she had opportunities to interact with Acadia’s biology faculty through hands-on learning and school projects. Maggie is particularly interested in exploring environmental impacts such as heavy metals and microbes on human diseases like dementia.

Maggie will be pursuing a Kinesiology degree, she competed with Acadia’s Varsity Swim Team in the fall of 2023 and switched to the Varsity Cross Country Team in 2024. She looks forward to conducting impactful environmental research during her time at Acadia.
